This course represents a new approach to improved listening. It contains practical techniques designed to enhance specific skills required to better listen and understand what others say in both one-on-one and group settings. Content deals with barriers to effective listening, characteristics of the skillful listener, reflective listening techniques and how the listener can create a climate that motivates others to openly and effectively communicate.

Goals/Objectives

·   Identify individual listening styles and information preferences

·   Explore and develop methods for breaking down common barriers

·   Analyze other's listening preferences and determine how best to convey your message

·   Consider the impact of body language on the verbal message

·   Evaluate the emotion and intent of other's messages

·   Contains a self-diagnosis with opportunity for each participant to build an individual action plan

·   Supporting videotape with examples and demonstrations is included
