As a project management practitioner, many have likely been exposed to the Earned Value Management (EVM) technique. Most people associated with the project management discipline, however, simply learned the concepts as part of a training class or – truthfully – to prepare for the PMP® certification exam. Outside of the federal government and a small select group of organizations, EVM is not utilized as it has a reputation (though unfounded) as impractical, cumbersome, or downright tedious to use effectively. In reality, however, this does not have to be the norm.
