Modeling Techniques for the Business Analyst

This course presents the basics of Business Analysis.

Overview

The course covers the creation of a current system implementation model and its transformation into a system essential model (requirements specification). Current system implementation models are used to take a system and break it down into its subsystems based on business or project need. Each subsystem can then be broken down into greater levels of detail to document business requirements.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Define the five techniques that are the basis of structured theory
  • Define a planned response system
  • Identify the essential events, essential activities and essential data that constitute a business system
  • Use different process modeling techniques including DFD, Swim Lane, and SIPOC models
  • Define a system architecture using a hierarchical, top-down approach to modeling
  • Understand the concept of data modeling as an adjunct to process modeling
  • Transform the current System Implementation Model into the System Essential Model
