Bystander Intervention courses were first introduced in colleges and universities to combat sexual harassment, binge drinking, suicide and other harmful behaviors.

Audience

The Bystander Intervention Course provides employees skills to prevent or diffuse harassment of any nature preventing a situation from escalating and getting out of control.

Outline

On completion of the ‘Bystander intervention training’ course, you will learn to:

  • Learn best practices that bystanders can chose to diffuse a situation
  • Ensure you can safely intervene, recruit other bystanders to help defuse the situation if appropriate
  • Disrupt- how to redirect the situation or distract the harasser
  • Confront-determine whether to take action and tell them the behavior isn’t acceptable
  • Support-Assisting the harassed enabling them to take action if required
  • Report- report misconduct 
  • Summarize the requirements of the relevant legislation
  • Describe acceptable workplace behavior
  • Identify instances of bullying and harassment in the workplace
  • Respond appropriately to instances of bullying and harassment 
  • Explain how bullying and harassment can be prevented
